Turmeric

Turmeric is a plant. You probably know turmeric as the main spice in curry. It has a warm, bitter taste and is frequently used to flavor or color curry powders, mustards, butters, and cheeses. But the root of turmeric is also used widely to make medicine.
Turmeric is used for arthritis, heartburn (dyspepsia), stomach pain, diarrhea, intestinal gas, stomach bloating, loss of appetite, jaundice, liver problems and gallbladder disorders.
Turmeric is a member of the ginger family. Turmeric actually looks a lot like ginger, but more orange in color.
For thousands of years, turmeric has been used to treat a variety of ills, but more recently studies has shown that consuming turmeric can help fight infections, reduce inflammations, helps digestive problems, and fight some cancers. It is a good source of iron and manganese and a phytonutrient pigment called called curcumin.
Turmeric is a member of the ginger family and has been a traditional remedy in ayurvedic and chinese medicine for thousands of years.
It is used externally for reducing inflammations, treating skin diseases and healing wounds.
Turmeric has extremely high anti-oxidant activities. In asia, it is added to food to prevent oxidisation. It is also claimed to be anti-carcinogenic and used topically on the skin for cancerous affections.
Never mind if you have to stain your clothes turmeric stained, but make sure you add this exotic root-herb in the food you eat! this herb is actually an underground rhizome (root), which composes of unique phyto-chemical pigment compounds that impart an intense flavor, color, and distinctive fragrance to the recipes it added to. Binomially, this popular herb belongs to the ginger or zingiberaseae family of root herbs, in the genus; curcuma.
Its roots as well as leaves have long been used in traditional indian and chinese medicines for their demonstrated anti-inflammatory (painkiller), anti-oxidant, and anti-cancer properties.
Acurcumin is thought to be the primary pharmacological agent in turmeric. In numerous studies, curcuminas anti-inflammatory effects have been shown to be comparable to the potent drugs hydrocortisone and phenylbutazone as well as over-the-counter anti-inflammatory agents such as motrin.a(source) and the benefit to using turmeric instead of all those drugs is a it doesnat have all the toxic chemicals drugs have, which means youall have less junk in your body.
Turmeric is native to sub-himalayan mountain region and now grown widely in many parts of the tropical and subtropical regions as an important commercial crop. The plant grows to a meter in height and features aromatic, miniature plantain-like leaves.
Turmeric root features dark brown skin on the exterior and deep orange-yellow flesh internally. Its leaves as well as rhizome features unique flavor and fragrance. Its taste is described as mild peppery to warm and bitter while its fragrance is sweet and pleasant, slightly reminiscent of a mix of orange-zest, and ginger to which it is related. Once harvested, the root is boiled, dried, and ground to prepare distinctive bright yellow spice powder. Turmeric plants produce no seeds, and only reproduce via its underground spreading rhizomes.

Health benefits
Turmeric has been in use since antiquity for its anti-inflammatory (painkiller), carminative, anti-flatulent and anti-microbial properties.
The herb contains health benefiting essential oils such as termerone, curlone, curumene, cineole, and p-cymene.
Curcumin, a poly-phenolic compound, is the principal pigment that imparts deep orange color to the turmeric. In vitro as well as in laboratory animal studies have suggested that the curcumin may have anti-tumor, antioxidant, anti-arthritic, anti-amyloid, anti-ischemic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
This popular herb contains no cholesterol; however, it is rich in anti-oxidants and dietary fiber, which helps to control blood ldl or "bad cholesterol" levels.
It is very rich source of many essential vitamins such as pyridoxine (vitamin b6), choline, niacin, and riboflavin, etc. 100 g herb provides 1.80 mg or 138% of daily-recommended levels of pyridoxine. Pyridoxine is employed in the treatment of homocystinuria, sideroblastic anemia and radiation sickness. Niacin helps prevent "pellagra" or dermatitis.
Contains curcumin, which can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Try to have 500 to 800 milligrams a day, says bharat aggarwal, phd, a professor of cancer medicine at the university of texas m.d. Anderson cancer center.

Turmeric is often found in kitchens around the world, but is not commonly used in the u.s. It is a common ingredient in indian foods, and a great addition to soups. It contains curcumin, a cancer-fighting compound. It is more often taken medicinally in america for its ability to reduce inflammation and improve joints. For a spark of flavor, add to egg dishes, soups, meat dishes, sauces and baked foods.
Turmeric is one of the readily available, cheap herbs that contain notable phyto-nutrients profile. At 1,59,277 amol te/100 g, its total-orac value or anti-oxidant strength is one of the highest among known herb and spice species.
Turmeric plant can be easily grown at your home garden or as a potherb so that fresh roots and leaves are made available for use as and when required. In the herb store and local markets, fresh as well as dry turmeric horns can be readily found. Otherwise, one may, choose packed turmeric powder from the authentic manufactures( since adulteration is not uncommon). Whenever possible, try to buy organic brand since this will give you some sort of assurance that it has not irradiated and free from pesticide residues. Fresh roots can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a month or so. Its powder, however, should be stored inside the refrigerator in airtight containers.

Antioxidant
It involves free radicals, highly reactive molecules with unpaired electrons.
Free radicals tend to react with important organic substances, such as fatty acids, proteins or dna.
The main reason antioxidants are so beneficial, is that they protect our bodies from free radicals.
Curcumin happens to be a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals due to its chemical structure.

Heart disease
Heart disease is the biggest killer in the world.
It has been studied for many decades and researchers have learned a lot about why it happens.
It turns out that heart disease is incredibly complicated and there are various things that contribute to it.
Curcumin may help reverse many steps in the heart disease process.
Perhaps the main benefit of curcumin when it comes to heart disease, is improving the function of the endothelium, which is the lining of the blood vessels.
It is well known that endothelial dysfunction is a major driver of heart disease and involves an inability of the endothelium to regulate blood pressure, blood clotting and various other factors.
Several studies suggest that curcumin leads to improvements in endothelial function.
One study shows that is as effective as exercise, another shows that it works as well as the drug atorvastatin.

Cancer
Cancer:
If pancreatic cancer runs in your family, you may have a strong interest in taking turmeric to help prevent it from forming.
It can also be used to help treat it, something that you donat often hear in regards to a spice.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers out there, and is hard to treat.
Any natural assistance in the treatment would be beneficial, and research suggests that turmeric acts to specifically target cancer cells and kill them.
It is not turmeric spice, but rather turmeric extract that has been shown to be so effective at treating pancreatic cancer.
Of course your doctor knows best and you should always follow their advice on the best treatment options for you.
Cancer is a terrible disease, characterized by uncontrolled growth of cells.
There are many different forms of cancer, but they do have several commonalities, some of which appear to be affected by curcumin supplementation.
Researchers have been studying curcumin as a beneficial herb in cancer treatment.
It can affect cancer growth, development and spread at the molecular level.
Studies have shown that it can reduce angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels in tumors), metastasis (spread of cancer), as well as contributing to the death of cancerous cells.
Multiple studies have shown that curcumin can reduce the growth of cancerous cells in the laboratory and inhibit the growth of tumours in test animals.
Whether high-dose curcumin (preferably with an absorption enhancer like pepper) can help treat cancer in humans has yet to be tested properly.
However, there is some evidence that it may help prevent cancer from occurring in the first place, especially cancers of the digestive system (like colorectal cancer).

Eases arthritis symptoms
Because curcumin is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and pain reducing characteristics, a study was conducted on 45 rheumatoid arthritis patients to compare the benefits of curcumin in turmeric to arthritis drugs (diclofenac sodium), that put people at risk of developing leaky gut and heart disease.
If you suffer from arthritis pain you may want to consider adding more turmeric to your daily diet, as it has been shown to help ease the pain associated from arthritis thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Since the regular course of treatment for arthritis is focused around pain management with prescription medication, itas good to use as many all-natural remedies as you can, especially those that are backed up by clinical studies.
To use turmeric for arthritis youall want to ingest it, as it doesnat work as a topical treatment, but rather from the inside to help soothe inflammation and bring the body back to its more natural state.

Upset stomach
Turmeric has long been used as a quick and effective cure for an upset stomach.
This is one of those benefits that has been known for generations, but only recently has science come along to back it up.
Because turmeric acts as an anti-inflammatory, it helps to keep stomach acid from getting out of control, and has been shown to soothe heartburn as well as general stomach upset.
Taking too much turmeric can actually cause an upset stomach, so itas all about taking the right amount of it, and not overdoing it.
Too much of a good thing can make it a bad thing, so be sure to test what your tolerance level is and find the right dosage level.

Prevent prostate cancer
Weave already discussed how turmeric is helpful with cancer in general, but there is very promising research showing that it can go a long way in the fight against prostate cancer.
Since prostate cancer will affect many men, itas perhaps one of the most convincing reasons to get more turmeric in your life.
To get these benefits youall need to use turmeric frequently, and combine it with cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and kale.
While itas possible to simply use more turmeric in your cooking, many find it easier to take it in supplement form to take away the guesswork.
There are a number of foods that have been shown to help with prostate cancer, so be sure to eat more of those as well, and not rely on turmeric alone.
These foods include green tea, broccoli, and pomegranate.

Fat burner
One of the more widely known benefits of turmeric is its ability to help the body burn fat.
Thatas why itas being recommended more and more as a dietary aid when trying to lose weight.
The best part of adding more turmeric to your diet in order to lose fat is that it helps to flavor up most any dish, and itas all natural so you wonat have to turn to dangerous fat loss pills or crash diets.

Notes
When trying to lose weight, itas best to focus on fat loss and not overall body weight.
Invest in a scale that also shows you your body fat percentage and decide on a healthy bfp rather than a healthy weight.
Many diets have you losing water weight or muscle mass, which is counterproductive.

A pile of fresh turmeric roots
Alzheimeras disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease in the world and a leading cause of dementia. Unfortunately, no good treatment is available for alzheimeras yet. Therefore, preventing it from showing up in the first place is of utmost importance.
Curcumin, the antioxidant that makes turmeric so fascinating as a spice, has been shown to work very similar to an antidepressant.
This is good news for those looking to treat their depression using natural methods, as well as those that simply want the best mental health they can have.
Itas important to point out that much of the research regarding turmeric and depression has been conducted using laboratory animals such as mice.
Clinical depression is a serious medical condition that requires a doctoras expert opinion and a course of treatment.
Using all-natural substances like turmeric should have your doctoras approval and be in line with their recommendations.

Lower cholesterol
High cholesterol is a precursor to several heart conditions, which is why itas so important to keep it at healthy levels.
There are several ways to help get your cholesterol levels down, but adding a simple spice to your cooking can go a long way.
Turmeric helps to lower cholesterol levels thanks to the cucurmin it contains, which encourages the liver to help get rid of more of the bad cholesterol in the body.
Always consult your doctor before going off of any medications for cholesterol.
Inform them that youad like to take a more all-natural approach to lowering your cholesterol with a mix of dietary changes, exercise, and supplementation, and work with them to make it happen.

Skin
Turmeric can help the skin in many ways, from reducing redness to fighting the signs of aging.
These skin treatments involve using turmeric powder topically rather than ingesting it.
There are a few properties of turmeric that give it its healing nature when applied to the skin.
The first is that itas anti-inflammatory, which helps soothe many different skin problems.
The second is its antiseptic ability, which helps rid the skin of impurities.
Many of the most popular skin care products on the market contain chemicals and additives that you wouldnat want to rub onto your skin.
Using an all natural item like turmeric helps to heal the skin without these largely unknown ingredients.

Childhood leukemia
One cancer that turmeric seems particularly effective at preventing is childhood leukemia.
It has been documented to prevent it in four different ways, making it one of the more useful natural methods at making sure your child doesnat develop this disease.
How did they first discover that turmeric is effective at preventing childhood leukemia? they looked at the data from countries that have a higher use of turmeric and found that the incidents of childhood leukemia were more rare.
Many of the benefits of turmeric stem from the curcumin it contains.
This is what gives turmeric its distinct yellow color and antioxidant value.
Further research is required to determine the best way to use turmeric for this purpose, such as delivery method and dosage amounts.

Diabetes
Turmeric has made a lot of news for its ability to help prevent and manage diabetes.
It has a positive effect on blood glucose levels, helping to get them lower or keep them low.
There is clinical evidence for the effectiveness of turmeric on blood sugar levels, so this is one natural remedy that you can feel good about using in conjunction with your other preventive or management efforts.
You should consult with your doctor before starting to use more turmeric or taking turmeric supplements.
A small study in thailand in 2012 found it may help lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.
It found that over 9 months a daily dose of a supplement containing curcumin, seemed to prevent new cases of type 2 diabetes among certain people at risk.
However, more research is needed.
If youare already using insulin or medication to manage your blood glucose levels the addition of turmeric could lower them too far, causing additional problems in the form of hypoglycemia.

Radical damage
Curcumin found in turmeric is a powerful antioxidant, which will help protect the body against free radical damage, which helps it stay healthy and vital and prevents several diseases.
The antioxidant power of turmeric is what makes it so effective and gives it many of the other benefits listed here.
Antioxidants have been shown to prevent cancer and heart disease, and help with a myriad of conditions that are either caused by, or worsened by, free radical damage.
Many foods are known for their antioxidant value, including blueberries, green tea, and tomatoes, but itas not too often that you find a spice that is loaded with as much antioxidant value as turmeric.

Antiseptic
While you may never find yourself using turmeric to clean a wound, itas helpful to know that it does show antiseptic properties when used in this manner.
Turmeric has been used for centuries as a way to clean wounds and kill off microbes that would otherwise cause an infection.
Today we have plenty of pharmaceutical antiseptics that are very effective at cleaning wound and preventing infection, but for those that want to stick to more all-natural remedies, turmeric is a suitable stand-in.

Bowel disorders
If youave been known to have trouble with various bowel disorders, turmeric may be able to help improve the situation.
Itas been shown to help with irritable bowel syndrome, and crohnas disease.
The anti inflammatory nature of turmeric is what helps the bowels return to their natural state of wellbeing.
Because bowel disorders range greatly in their severity, the amount of relief you experience will depend on a large number of factors.
Using turmeric alone might not be enough to fully recover from a specific bowel disorder.
It takes a cumulative effort of dietary and lifestyle changes, and perhaps medication.
Consult with your doctor for a plan of action on how to best treat your specific condition.

Liver detoxes
The liver plays a big part in helping detox the body, so it only makes sense to help it out by detoxing the liver, and turmeric can help.
Turmeric has been used in ayurvedic practices for centuries as a way to help cleanse the liver as well as the digestive system.
Both need to be functioning well in order to eliminate toxins from the body.

Anti-inflammatory
Turmeric, or rather the curcumin it contains, has anti-inflammatory properties that will help relieve symptoms from conditions caused by inflammation.
This can be of real value if youare currently suffering from one of these conditions, or you are trying to prevent the onset of a specific disease.
Several sources state that inflammation is responsible at least in some part to nearly every major disease, so itas key to keep this in mind and take action to prevent an inflammatory state.
Over-inflammation can cause or worsen several conditions, which is why itas a good idea to eat a diet rich in foods that have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body.
Turmeric can play its part, but be sure to combine it with other anti-inflammatory foods.
Without inflammation, pathogens like bacteria could easily take over our bodies and kill us.
Although acute (short-term) inflammation is beneficial, it can become a major problem when it is chronic (long-term) and inappropriately deployed against the bodyas own tissues.
It is now believed that chronic, low-level inflammation plays a major role in almost every chronic, western disease.
This includes heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, alzheimeras and various degenerative conditions.
Therefore, anything that can help fight chronic inflammation is of potential importance in preventing and even treating these diseases.

Boosts immune system
Turmeric has been shown repeatedly to be a big boost to the immune system, which results in better overall health and well being, and less likelihood of getting sick or coming down with a disease.
A poor diet can result in a depressed immune system, which is why itas essential to eat well and get regular exercise along with supplementing your diet with natural foods and spices like turmeric for an improved immune system and better health.
Your immune system is the cornerstone to your health and longevity, so any amount of time spent on improving it is a good investment.
Since several factors determine the health of your immune system, youall want to keep the bigger picture in mind and do everything you can for a healthy immune system.

Cystic fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is a chronic lung disease that usually requires antibiotics and inhaled medications, but research is showing that turmeric may also be able to help.
Again, it is the curcumin contained within turmeric that is providing the benefit to cystic fibrosis sufferers.
At first there was a link discovered between curry consumption and an improvement in cystic fibrosis symptoms.
Further research uncovered that it is actually the curcumin, and now itas possible to simply use the curucmin without the need for dietary supplementation.
The ability of turmeric to help out with such a myriad of conditions really shows why itas earned the label superspice, allowing for an all-natural treatment where there was once only limited medical options.

Lowers blood pressure
High blood pressure can eventually lead to more severe heart conditions, and treating it is very important for your overall cardiovascular health.
For this to occur youall need to take higher doses of turmeric in supplement form, rather than eating massive amounts of it.
Turmeric acts as a natural blood thinner, so youall want to make sure that your doctor knows about its use before you start taking it, as it could affect other medications youare on.
You should always consult with your doctor before supplementing with any herbal remedy, and definitely before ceasing or reducing any blood pressure medication youare currently on.
Itas good to try to treat your high blood pressure naturally, but you want to do it with the help of your doctor.

Prevents colon cancer
Colon cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer because it usually comes on with few warning signs.
Getting a regular exam is key, but you can also take preventive measures in the form of an all-natural spice like turmeric.
Specifically, the curcurmin in turmeric helps prevent cancer tumors from forming.
This is particularly important for cancers like colon cancer, which start off as polyps on the colon and can develop into tumors if left untreated.
Turmeric would be recommended for those that have had polyps found, but do not have colon cancer yet.
Turmeric is well known for its beneficial effects on the digestive system and bowels, including the colon.
Taking in the right foods and keeping your colon healthy can go a long way in preventing polyps from forming in the first place.

Diarrhea
There are many causes of diarrhea, including side effects from drugs, symptoms of several diseases and conditions, and eating the wrong foods.
Turmeric can help calm the digestive system and relieve diarrhea if taken at the right time, and in the right amounts.
Your body is always trying to communicate with you, and diarrhea may be a sign of some other problem.
Determining the cause of diarrhea is the first step, and using something like turmeric should only be done when you know what the underlying problem is.
Taking too much turmeric can cause diarrhea, so itas all about finding the right amount for your body, and using it wisely.
You can use turmeric in your daily cooking for diarrhea prevention, or at the first signs of diarrhea to help get things back to normal.

Lowers cortisol levels
You may have heard of cortisol because many of the most popular diet pills on the planet say that they work by reducing the amount of cortisol in the body.
This in turn helps to reduce belly fat, as cortisol is a stress hormone that causes the body to retain fat.
Cortisol has been dubbed athe stress hormonea and has been linked to things like sleep problems and even blood sugar levels.
Rather than subject yourself to these often dangerous weight loss pills, you can use turmeric as a natural way to bring down your cortisol and stress less.
Other foods to help you lower your cortisol level are spinach, dark chocolate, and beans.
Itas always best to use whole foods like these rather than a proprietary blend of ingredients in a pill or supplement.

Pain relief
Pain relievers are a multi-billion dollar a year industry, and thatas just for over-the-counter medications.
Finding natural ways to get this same sort of relief without having to resort to medicine is a big part of living a more natural lifestyle.
Anti-inflammatory benefits provided by turmeric will help with conditions like arthritis, but many of the top-selling otc pain relievers act as anti-inflammatories as well.
The main takeaway is that less inflammation equals less pain all else being equal.
You can use turmeric in two different ways to get pain relief benefits.
You can either use more of it in your cooking, or start taking turmeric supplements for a more potent amount of the curumin it contains.

Multiple sclerosis
The curcumin in turmeric can help stop ms from advancing, adding to the list of conditions that turmeric has been shown to help with.
It may be still too early to confirm that these benefits exist, but early signs point to it being.
While multiple sclerosis has no current cure, treatment options include drugs to help reduce the symptoms, alter how fast it progresses, and to manage it as best as you can.
More and more doctors are keeping an open mind about natural remedies as part of an overall treatment strategy, especially when early clinical signs point to it working.
Itas not known exactly why curcumin helps to prevent the full onset of multiple sclerosis, but since itas an all-natural remedy with no known side effects it only makes sense to supplement with it under your doctoras supervision.

Better digestion and elimination
By eating turmeric you can help your digestive system, as it has been used for this purpose for hundreds of years.
Turmeric is one of those spices that other parts of the world have known about for a long time, but only recently has the rest of the world started catching on.
Weave already talked about how turmeric helps the liver, and an improved liver also helps the digestive system work better.
A sluggish digestion often starts with an overtaxed liver, so turmeric works on multiple systems to help get them all back online and functioning correctly.

Antibacterial
One property of turmeric is that it works to kill bacteria, which can be a big help if you ever cut or burn yourself.
Rather than use a medicinal antibacterial agent you can treat burns and cuts with turmeric and it will work to keep them clean.
You can also use turmeric internally to get these benefits, as it will help your digestive system rid itself of any harmful bacteria.
Countries that use turmeric in their cooking often have lower cases of digestive issues, thanks in part to the antibacterial effects it has.
While there are many forms of bacteria within the body that are helpful and meant to be there, there are several others that are only acting to cause the body harm or slow it down.
Turmeric can help keep those at bay so the body functions properly.

Anti-depressants
Although few studies have been conducted on humans, dozens of research trials have proven that turmeric is especially effective in correcting depression symptoms in laboratory animals.
To address this issue, the journal phytotherapy research published the results of an amazing, innovative study this past year.
The study took 60 volunteers diagnosed with major depressive disorder (mdd) and split the group to determine how patients treated by curcumin fared against fluoxetine (prozac) and a combination of the two.

Anti-inflammatories
Arguably, the most powerful aspect of curcumin is its ability to control inflammation.
The journal oncogene published the results of a study that evaluated several anti-inflammatory compounds and found that aspirin and ibuprofen are least effective, while curcumin, is among the most effective anti-inflammatory compounds in the world.

Medicinal uses
Research studies have suggested that curcumin, a poly-phenolic compound, found in this herb may inhibit the multiplication of tumor cells, including multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, and colon cancer.
It contains health benefiting essential oils such as termerone, curlone, curumene, cineole, and p-cymene. These compounds have applications in cosmetic industry.
Curcumin, along with other antioxidants, has been found to have anti-amyloid and anti-inflammatory properties. Thus; it is effective in preventing or at least delaying the onset of alzheimeras disease.
The root herb contains no cholesterol; however, it is rich in anti-oxidants, and dietary fiber. Together, they help to control blood cholesterol levels, offer protection from coronary artery disease and stroke risk.
Early laboratory studies have been suggestive that turmeric is liver protective, anti-depressant, anti-retroviral effects.
It has been in use since a very long ago as an important ingredient in traditional chinese and ayurvedic medicines for its anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, carminative, and anti-flatulent properties.

Culinary uses
For an indian flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric to water when cooking 1 cup rice.
Fresh root contains very good levels of vitamin-c. 100 of root compose of 23.9 mg of this vitamin. Vitamin c is a water-soluble vitamin and a powerful natural anti-oxidant, which helps the body develop immunity against infectious agents, and remove harmful free oxygen radicals.
Turmeric contains very good amounts of minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, manganese, copper, zinc, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase. Iron is an important co-factor for cytochrome oxidase enzymes at cellular level metabolisms and required for red blood cell (rbc's) productions.
Turmeric powder has been in use as a food colorant, natural food preservative, and flavor base since ancient times. It is traditionally recognized as "indian saffron", since its deep yellow-orange color is quite similar to that of the prized saffron. Wash the fresh roots in cold running water or rinse for few minutes to remove any sand, grit, soil or pesticide residues. Fresh powder can be prepared at home with the following simple steps: first, the root is boiled in the water, dried under sun, and then ground to get flavorful yellow colored powder.
In order to keep the fragrance and flavor intact, it is generally added at the last moment in the cooking recipes, since prolonged cooking would result in evaporation of its essential oils. It is essential to be watchful while handling turmeric since its pigments can easily stain clothes and kitchen walls. To avoid a lasting stain, immediately wash any area with soap and water. Here are some serving tips:
It is a natural food preservative. The paste is used to marinate fish, chicken, and meat to enhance shelf life; and particularly to offset the stingy smell of fish.
India, sun dried roots mixed with other spices, curry leaves, peppers, etc., and then gently roasted and ground to prepare a curry-masala powder.
Turmeric powder complements well with any vegetable or meat preparations and mixes nicely with other spicy powders and herbs, enhancing the flavor and fragrance of the dishes.
It has been used in the preparations of soups, salad dressings and has been found application in food industry like canned beverages, baked products, dairy products, ice cream, yogurt, yellow cakes, orange juice, biscuits, popcorn color, sweets, cake icings, cereals, sauces, etc.

Warning:
*while turmeric has a long history of health giving properties and there have been many hundreds of studies into its effects on a wide variety of ailments it can't be regarded as a magic cure.
*it's worth bearing in mind that most of these are preliminary studies performed in a laboratory, and not in humans.
*much more research is needed into the possible benefits.
*so it's still too early to say whether or not turmeric has definite health benefits.
