Short Description

I have never met anyone who makes their own applesauce and makes just enough for one meal. It really may be the foundational "Big Food" to share, so we thought this section was not complete without it. Applesauce was one of the first foods I made in bulk, passing off extra quarts for the freezer or the fridge to willing friends. When you're under the weather a warm bowl of applesauce can be a cold cure to rival chicken soup. It is an ideal side to a sandwich or roast (hello Porchetta-esque Pork Butt) and a perfect kid-tamer to serve while you cook. It also gives me good reason to use my trusty French food mill, and when it's simmering in the pot it makes the house smell amazing. The other thing about applesauce is that it is nearly impossible to screw up. You need nothing but apples and a bit of water; cinnamon if you want to be fancy.
