My husband used to make Goldilocks porridge for our children when they were small. None of them wanted to eat oatmeal but they hung on his every word as he cooked up a pot of oatmeal and continued to spin the Goldilocks story. I never figured out how, but the kids were mesmerized into eating the oatmeal, passing around the brown sugar in spite of themselves. He has been successful with our youngest granddaughter too. She is now a fan of Goldilocks porridge, although at the beginning each spoonful of oatmeal had to have visible brown sugar crystals on the top. Jim still likes a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, except he always makes too much for one person. Then a couple of years ago I developed a recipe for the perfect bowl of oatmeal for him. All went well until I bought home a different brand of oatmeal and the recipe no longer worked. The new stuff was very tough and took an incredibly long time to soften. The directions were vague on the bag and the outcome was always disappointing. I used up the oatmeal for baking and bought a well-known brand hoping that this will be the last time I have to make several batches of oatmeal to come up with the right amount for Jim. The problem with the one serving recipes is they tend to be a bit small. Just how much is 1/3 cup of oats plus half of that? I measured it out in grams and its 1/2 cup. Here is the recipe:
